Free Books Every Month for Your Child 0-5

I know, you probably are wondering like I was, Is this forreal?!

Yes it is! In fact, I  just finished registering my three year old, Lourdes, for this program. I can’t wait for her to receive her special books in the mail!

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library was launched in 1995 with the vision to “foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month”. This is accomplished by mailing high quality, age-appropriate books directly to their homes helping to insure that every child would have books, regardless of their family’s income.

When I first started teaching 6th grade English in Charlottesville, VA I was struck by how many children did not own their very own books–ones that lived in their homes forever–ones that they could read over and over and over.

Some of my greatest memories was taking field trips to our local Barnes&Nobles and letting the kids pick out and buy their own books (and of course get a sweet treat form the Starbucks cafe). Their faces beamed with excitement and pride and I hope it left a positive mark on them.

When I saw Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library I was simply thrilled and now I find myself sharing it with every person I know who has a child aged 0-5 and even folks I don’t really know (like the mommas in the grocery line). I am so excited to tell them about this awesome offering hoping they (and you too) will sign up and spread the word!

Check here to see if this program is offered in your community and sign your darling up. If it is not, think about how you might partner with this organization to bring it to all the little ones in your neck of the woods.

If you already have your child(ren) signed up for this program please share your experience.

Also, if you know of any more great book gifting or exchange programs share that as well as we would love to hear about it!

Stay Encouraged & Be Blessed!
