When you talk, don’t say anything bad. But say the good things that people need to hear, whatever will help them grow stronger. Then what you say will be a blessing to those who hear you.
Ephesians 4:29 (ERV)
This week Princess Bella and Princess Petals attended vacation Bible camp at our church focused on sharing the truth about God through movement, prayer and praise. Khari and I were so humbled and encouraged by all of the wonderful seeds that were deposited into the kids this week.
The theme of the camp was Speak Life. The goal of the camp was to help children discover the power of words and to understand that power can be used to wound or heal, dishearten or build up the people to whom we speak.
Princess Jubilee looked forward to picking up her sisters when camp was over, she couldn’t wait to go inside!
The place where life bringing or death inflicting words are born is in our heart. Jesus tells us that “out of abundance of our heart, the mouth speaks.” Matthew 12:34
Each day they focused on different words.
Day 1: “I Believe”
Day 2: “I’m Sorry”
Day 3: “I Forgive You”
Day 4: “I Love You”
Day 5: “God Loves You”
Day 6: Through Christ, You Can Do It”
They also taught the children an acronym to help the THINK before they speak.
T – is it True?
H – is it Helpful?
I – is it Inspiring?
N – is it Necessary?
K – is it Kind?
I love this and am planning on creating many little poster reminders to put around us so that we can remember to run our thoughts through this matrix.
On the last day of camp the children did an outreach program at The Washington Home and Hospice Center where they sang, danced and prayed for the residents. It was such a heart-opening and heart warming experience for all involved!
We are so thankful to all those involved who helped to make this such a meaningful experience for the children. We give a special thanks to The Children of the Light Dance Ministries who really worked hard to put this together. If you live in the DC Metro are and are looking for a Christ-centered dance ministry for youth, then look no further!
