Fun with ABB Patterns

Now that Princess Petals has mastered making and reading AB patterns, it was time to move on to…you guessed it, ABB patterns. I approached ABB pattterns the same way I did AB patterns. This time I didn’t have to spend any time at all really teaching her. Due to the fact she understood AB patterns, she was off to the races!

This is a sheet I made to help her get started.

This is a sheet I made to help her get started.

Everyday Princess Petals has a pattern to put together and she really enjoys this challenge. As she gets older and learns more things her pattern work will become more challenging.

But all this pattern work (and the patterns to come) really got me thinking about patterns and why we teach them. Although I had my own ideas: logic, relationship identification, etc. I got curious to see what I could find on the topic and came across an article that I believe does a good job summing the whole things up.

Enjoy the read and most of all…
